Medicaid Benefits Fact Sheet

General benefits of receiving Medicaid:

• If you already have insurance your primary insurance is billed first and then Medicaid. So Medicaid can be thought of as supplemental insurance.
• Receiving Medicaid does not affect your Social Security benefits.
• When applying for Medicaid only the individual’s income is reviewed not the family income. The only exception is a child under the age of 18. In this case a specific type of Medicaid can be applied for that excludes reviewing the family’s income.
