Citizen's Police Academy graduation this evening.
Special Congrats to Scott Malutinok!
DATE: 04/12/2017

Marrietta Police Department is proud to announce the graduation of another citizen’s Police academy class this evening.  Ceremony will be held at the City Council chambers, 205 Lawrence Street Marietta Georgia at 7:00PM.

Among the graduates of this academy, it is with honor that we secifically recognize long time friend to the Marietta Police Department, Mr Scott Malutinok.  Scott has wanted to be in law enforcement since early childhood.  His life was forever changed in a tragic motorcycle accident approximately eight years ago.

Scott was twenty years old and a Sophomore at Kennesaw State University in the Criminal Justice program at this time of his accident.  Scott’s parents, David and Peggy Malutinok, were initially told his crash was fatal.  Scott was air lifted from the crash sceen in East Cobb to the Atlanta Medical Center where he was treated for multiple broken bones and an assortment of internal injuries.  In the accident, the 900 pound motorcycle he had been riding landed directly on his chest, crushing his lungs.  Once at the medical center, Scott was only given a 5% chance of survival.

Scott spent several months inpatient rehabilitation learning to walk, speak and feed himself again.  Once released from inpatient care his mother Peggy quit her job to stay home and continue his rehabilitation.  Peggy expressed how stressful it was that his memory was so damaged he did not even recognize his family.  Peggy credits the families strong faith with Scott’s survival and recovery.  She stated that as his memory returned, one of the first things he talked about was wanting to become a police officer.

Eight years into Scott’s recovery we are proud to announce his graduation from our citizen’s police academy.  Scott still had short term memory loss that affects his daily life however he has never lost his love for law enforcement.  Scott’s amazing attitude and stong faith have eneabled him to overcome the many challenges he has faced during his recovery.  He is currently working at Chic Fil A on Roswell Road in the Eastlake Shopping Center and has applied to begin volunteering at the Marietta Police Department.  We look forward to working with Scott and his family in the near future.

Peggy and Scott will be available for interview and comments after the ceremony.
